Staying abroad at Christmas (probably alone)?
Does anyone have any experience of spending Christmas in their year abroad destination, and have any tips, please? I'm thinking of staying in Italy over Christmas but I'm a bit worried, because I'll be alone, and it'll be my first Christmas away from my family, and the UK! If anyone has any advice or experience to share, thank you.

Don't worry about spending Christmas away from home - here are some articles written by students who have been through it themselves and have some advice to pass on:
- How to survive Christmas by yourself
- Christmas abroad: the highs and lows
I hope they help! All the best,The TYA Team XxAlthough I haven't been in this situation myself, I can almost guarantee you won't be the only student in Italy at Christmas. Although most British people will probably head home, there will always be students from America, Australia, Asia etc who won't be able to go home. Look for your local Erasmus network or student group who might be organising events or have a Facebook page where you can post asking if anyone else is in the same boat. If you're at uni maybe you could put up a poster or again put something on Facebook, or look at couch surfing events which you can go to even if you don't sleep at someone's house. If you can find other people in Italy at Xmas, organise a pot luck dinner where everyone brings a dish and you get to try some gorgeous foreign food :) it might be sad being away from home, but you might find you have a different kind of fun :)
