It doesn't add any time to your degree, but replaces a portion of your time at Aberystwyth. This will usually be during your second year of study and all grades obtained at the partner university will be converted to their AU equivalent and contribute to your degree.

Traditionally, British students would go abroad during their second year of university and would transfer back to Bangor the credits they had gained. Bangor has introduced a new system whereby you can take an ‘International Experience Year’. On successful completion of your four-year degree you will graduate ‘with international experience’ added to your degree title.

Courses are normally delivered in English, with local language courses also available, or in some cases required. Applications for study exchange places are competitive, and you will be selected on the basis of your academic performance, a personal statement, ambassadorial qualities and a suitable academic reference.

In the increasingly global context of trade and recruitment, competition for graduate jobs has become fiercer than ever. Students and graduates with an international profile are favourably positioned to seize the best employment opportunities. The Centre for Global Engagement (CGE) has a catalogue of opportunities to help Coventry University students and recent graduates acquire the skills and attributes to gain international experience and become globally-employable. These opportunities include study, work and/or volunteering abroad, field trips, international projects and competition. Where no funding is otherwise available, CGE provides financial support towards travelling and subsistence costs through its International Experience Grants. Language classes in 19 languages are also offered every year to help prepare for experiences abroad through the Linguae Mundi programme.

All undergraduate students are eligible to study abroad with Erasmus+, as long as the exchange takes place within one of your faculty’s partner institutions, and the exchange period must be full-time, even if you are normally a part-time student at DMU. Students study abroad in their second year at DMU, and the exchange period must last a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months.
