The Year Abroad Graduate Project

The British Academy and University Council of Modern Languages (UCML) wanted to demonstrate the value of the year abroad to UK graduates and to potential funding bodies. They gathered short reports from graduates – whether language specialists or not – on the importance that the year abroad has had for them, in terms of their skill set, their careers and their lives.
Selected reports are published here and were used by the British Academy for a Position Paper, and for a high-profile launch event at the British Academy in March 2012, involving international participants and UK opinion-formers from Government and business.*
*This project was funded by the British Academy and being managed by Global Graduates (formerly ThirdYearAbroad.com) in association with the University Council of Modern Languages (UCML).
