Renate spent her year abroad in Siena, Italy. Read on as she fills the year abroad blanks...
My name is: RenateI'm studying: Italiano
For my year abroad I went to: Siena, Italy
While I was there I: studied at the University of Siena.
Five words to describe my year away are: Enlightening, confusing, impoverished, frustrating, fattening!
My top tips for anyone going there are: Be prepared to meet some hostility, but also to meet some of the nicest, friendliest people you will ever meet in your life. Frequent the same cafés and local shops and this will happen, making your experience less isolating.
The cleverest people find accommodation: Online.
Don't leave without: Photocopies of every document you have!
The best night out is: Spent Sat on the floor in Piazza del campo, with a beer.
When your parents visit: Let them go up Torre del Mangia by themselves - it's bad luck for students at Siena uni!
My favourite lunch place: Sic
My best place for a hot date: I wouldn't know ;)
On a Sunday: Have a walk and grab a coffee after 3.30pm when everything re-opens and the centre fills up.
The most useful website I found was: unisi.it - the Faculty of Letters homepage.
If you want to fit in quickly, you should: Dress for the weather, don't wear pumps without socks, don't smile too much!!
