Phone insurance: your need to know

Why you should consider extra insurance for your phone on your year abroad.
Insurance. Boring - probably. Confusing - potentially. Necessary - absolutely.
We're all aware of the need for comprehensive travel insurance to cover you on your year abroad, but did you know that many insurance deals don't cover gadgets like your mobile phone?
1. Why do I need separate gadget insurance?
If you're the type of person who manages to lose their glasses whilst wearing them, it's worth looking into insuring your gadgets. Even if you're relatively good at keeping hold of your possessions, accidents happen and being stuck in a foreign country without a mobile phone is, at best, inconvenient and, at worst, dangerous. You should get separate cover for your gadgets to cover accidental damage, as well as theft.
2. How will insurance help if I lose my phone?
It depends on what kind of cover you pay for, but generally gadget insurance will help you to cover the cost of replacing your lost phone as soon as possible.
3. I'm not covered - what should I do?
Don't worry, there are loads of great schemes to help you get covered! Money Supermarket have a great tool to help you compare the best deals out there. Remember to be honest with any potential insurer about how long you'll be abroad - there's no point lying to get a better deal and ending up stuck when you have to claim for a lost or damaged possession.
