What is Generation UK-India?
Generation UK–India offers young people from the UK the chance to experience India through unique and exciting placements across a variety of sectors.

As one of the world’s fastest growing countries, India is destined to be a key player in the global economy over the coming decades. This is your opportunity to get involved now, in doing so gaining skills and knowledge that will be vital when you go out into a job market that is more competitive than ever before.

A placement in India offers the kind of cultural immersion that is not available to tourists or travellers. It shows and involves you in the real India, giving you the opportunity to understand one of the most important countries in the world and make connections that will last a lifetime.

What are the aims of Generation UK - India?

To highlight the benefits of gaining experience in India  To create a network of participants and alumni to support further engagement. To offer advice, guidance and training to individuals interested in pursuing opportunities in India. But what opportunities will the programme offer?

1. Teach in India

We are delighted to announce that we have now launched the application process to apply for teaching assistantships in India in 2016-17. Following a successful pilot year where we sent 91 teaching assistants to schools all across India we are now hoping to increase the numbers aiming to offer 200 places in 2016-17. Once again assistantships will be available across India based in Indian private day and residential schools.

Where will I go?
Placements will be across India from Jammu in the North to Tamil Nadu in the South including posts in the major cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

When will I go?
Placements will start in July or August each year and last for two or five months, depending on your needs and the needs of the school you will be working at.

How do I apply?
Applications should be submitted via our online application form. The deadline can be found on our website. We will support you before, during and after with guidance, training and a welfare support team. Your host school will provide accommodation and meals and you will receive a monthly contribution to living costs. 2. Work in India

Join Tata Consultancy Services for a 12-month paid internship based in one of their offices across India in fields such as software development, global consulting, business process management and human resources. More information and deadlines can be found on our website.

3. Study in India

Spend 2-3 weeks studying at an Indian university over the summer. We have a range of courses available at 9 universities across India from international relations, social entrepreneurship and gender politics to yoga and cinema. Each course currently has between 20-50 places available. We will support you before, during and after with guidance, training and a welfare support team.

4. Cultural immersion

At present we cannot announce whether we will be running the Study India, Digital India or Make in India programmes as we are awaiting a decision on funding. We will keep you updated and any students interested should sign up for alerts on the Study Work Create India page.

Eligibility criteria
Different placements have different requirements but you must be:

  1.  At least 18 years of age.
  2.  A native-level English speaker.
  3.  Currently living in the UK.
  4.  Able to demonstrate a clear interest and commitment to your placement in India.
