Bordeaux, France - beautiful, vivacious, well-situated, environmentally-friendly, expensive  It was fantastic. There are a wide range of bars, cafés and clubs and it’s buzzing from Thursday onwards.  I took the chance to visit Madrid, Salamanca, Barcelona, Toulouse, Cauterets, Paris, Biarritz, Montpellier and Archachon.  My advice for third year abroad students?  Embrace it. It really is the best opportunity of your life.  Work hard, of course, but make the most of the fantastic transport systems to travel far and wide.  Get involved with activities both within the university and outside it.

Useful local words: 'La mie céline', 'les girondins', 'bouffer'.

What not to pack: Too many smart clothes as it's quite relaxed.

What to pack: A good camera.

Couldn’t have done without: My shorts, a cool box and a 12-25 rail card.
